The Formation of Skydale Acres

Contributor: Shirley Kuhlman

Skydale Acres subdivision in Gilpin County, Colorado was developed in 1961 by Earl Hoffman. It was previously the old township of Gilpin. Earl purchased it from Newman. E.V. and Shirley Kuhiman purchased the first cabin Earl built. Snowline was also developed by Mr. Hoffman. In 1964, he purchsed the property, subdivided and began building in 1965. Fort Cody was on the Snowline property. It had been built by Captain Ozie Waters of radio and T.V. fame, that featured the “Little Rangers”.

There was a fox farm where the old white farmhouse was standing when Earl bought the property. The Mulholland family lived in it while Mr. Mullholland was employed by Earl. The fox farm had been owned and operated by Art Crow and there is information about the McKinstry and Ball families who started the fox farm in 1926. elsewhere in this document submitted by Betty Wright Dumph.

The house is gone now. Earl had the peat bog dredged and a lake developed. Mr. Max Molier built the dam and lake which was later deeded to the property owners in Snowline and Skydale.
